Is this a stoop? Or just a front door / entry? I don't know. What I do know is that this sad sad entry stoop was plain and uninspired. I live in a cookie cutter neighborhood. Every time I drive down the street to my house I hear that song. It goes: "Little houses, on a hillside, little houses made of ticky tacky, little houses on a hillside, little houses in a row....." It was sung by Malvina Reynolds and is called "Little Houses". It was the theme song to the show "Weeds". Anyways, this space needed some personality. I added a flower pot that I've had loitering in the backyard. But, most importantly I added this awesome wreath!

Made with a dollar store foam 8" wreath and paper pinwheels. I just used straight pins and some hot glue to attach the pinwheels. It only took 2 hours or so. The paper pinwheels took a while to cut and fold. Wish it was bigger, but hey... it was what I had on hand.

I'm thinking lots more wreaths for different seasons is in order. Don't you just love color in a boring space? I know I do. I'm happy every time I walk up those cookie cutter stairs now.bperry042http://www.blogger.com/profile/06323342963757494145noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3913767173922574316.post-83612697093295949482016-05-07T13:06:00.000-07:002016-05-07T13:06:22.579-07:00New Addiction - Coiled Baskets!
These seem to be all over the Internet right now. I got addicted to these almost a year ago now. I've made dozens (literally) since then. My boys have many on our shelves of toys and I made 14 for Christmas gifts. I just love them. Easy and satisfying to make. Not to mention pretty to look at and totally practical.
This last basket got an addition of fabric. Why didn't I do this sooner! I can't get over that pop of color. Such a great use of all my string scraps of fabric that I've got in spades over here. This particular basket is using reproduction 1930's washboard fabrics left over from a quilt I made a few years ago.
More of these to come. I'm planning on three smaller ones for the boys Safari Ltd. Toob animals. We are desperate for some separation of species. I've noticed that I need handles on all baskets in the playroom. It just seems to make it easier for little hands to carry. Especially these larger baskets.

I also just want to mention that I get my cotton clothesline on Amazon. $10.00 for a 200ft piece. It's a steal! I usually get one large basket and a few smaller ones.bperry042http://www.blogger.com/profile/06323342963757494145noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3913767173922574316.post-44917552165966824552016-05-03T12:04:00.002-07:002016-05-03T12:15:41.693-07:00Cloth Diaper Review - Alva Baby & Kawaii NewbornIt's been a long time since I've reviewed or discussed cloth diapers. I thought now was a great time to do it! We've just had our 5th baby. He's 11 weeks old and just the most perfect thing ever! If you've read my blog you know that we started cloth diapering with our 3rd child. I sewed all his diapers myself and did some reviews here about my favorites. When we moved to Spokane 2.5 years ago I decided to not cloth diaper our 4th. With the move happening so close to his birth I knew I wouldn't have time to make any and honestly I just didn't want to deal with cloth in a brand new house. Big mistake! When we found out we were pregnant with our 5th I knew I wanted to start cd'ing again. Our now almost 2 year old was showing signs of wanting to potty train so I got out the few cloth diapers I had. Our cloth diaper stash at this time consisted of 6 Kawaii diapers, 2
Medium Fuzzy Bunz, and a few of my pockets from cloth diapering Cael.
The last month of my pregnancy was supposed to be my "sew everything up" month. But, a car accident rendered me to the couch for most of my last month and no sewing was done. Thus, an alternative had to be found. I ended up finding some size small gdiapers at my local children's consignment store. I used some stuffers left over from previous diapering years. I also found online a whole host of new "cheap china diapers". I researched some and decided to try some AlvaBaby OS pockets. So affordable and they come in a whole host of super cute prints and lovely solids. I purchased 6 (I think) for us to try on our toddler before baby arrived. They have a USA warehouse and shipping was free with my order. When they arrived they looked almost identical to the Kawaii diapers. The PUL seamed a bit thinner and I liked the bamboo inserts that I chose. They washed up good and I really liked them. We also purchased a diaper sprayer and it made it sooooo much easier to
deal with toddler diapers. If you don't yet have a diaper sprayer get
one. Get one now!!!

Fast forward to 3 weeks post partum and I found that I didn't love the gdiapers. They just didn't work well on my son. They are awesome cloth diapers, just not right for me. I'm a OS pocket girl. I also saw that we were using our pockets on our toddler more than I thought we would. I tried the pockets on our newborn. He was about 9 lbs or so. The Kawaii baby diapers just seamed chunky and huge. The AlvaBaby diapers fit much nicer so we decided to invest in more of those. I ended up purchasing 3 - 6packs on Amazon of their OS pockets. One boy colors, one neutral colors, and one boy print pack. All came with two microfiber inserts each and were under $36 a pack! Amazing deal! They arrived and somehow Amazon had messed up my order. Instead of the boy print back they sent and extra neutral colors pack. Amazon refunded my money and said to "keep, toss, or donate" the diapers that were sent wrong. Seriously!!!! I kept those babies and went to the AlbaBaby US website to purchase some prints. I really wanted those prints. I purchased some cute pocket prints and decided to try a few AI1's as well. The AI1's that are cut the same as the pockets are awesome. The ones that have the different style tabs and rise setting are terrible. Stay away from those!
Henry in Kawaii OS NB Pocket. He's just over 14 lbs. here.

Another lucky find at the local children's consignment store were 6 Kawaii Baby NB Pockets. I didn't know such a thing existed! They were just $3.99 for 3. So I purchased the 6 and brought them home. All I have to say is AMAZING! Where have these been for my past 3 babies?! They are cut trimmer and are of course smaller all over. Love Love Love them. (I'm adding that I've since looked on the AlbaBaby website and they to carry a NB pocket. I bet I would love those just as much)

In conclusion I'm going to say this. I've tried almost everything in the cloth diapering wold over the past 5 years. (I've never owned big name brand expensive pockets as they are out of my price range) If doing cloth all over again from the start I would purchase at least 14 NB OS pockets from either AlvaBaby or Kawaii. (maybe even 28) I would then also purchase 24 - 36 OS Pockets from AlvaBaby. Would I sew my own stash? Probably not. With the china diapers being so affordable I don't think I could make them for any cheaper.

*I know there is huge debate online right now about cheap china cloth diapers. My opinion is this. The big US brand diapers are lovely and I'm sure they are worth every penny. But, many simply can't afford them. I think the china brand ones are still better for the environment, baby, and my pocket book. These things make them better than paper diapers any day of the week in my book.

During all my "spare" time. (I say spare very lightly because as any busy parent knows, there really isn't any spare time. I sneak knitting time when the boys are happily playing in the yard, or in the evenings when all the kids are finally down for the night, or when I'm in a waiting room or on a car ride.) Anyways, I've started much but only finished a few simple things. All links go to my Ravelry page in case you want yarn, pattern, and size specifics.

First is a Milo. I'm actually making two. One for each boy, but I've only started on Cael's. He's 4 now, but I cast on the size 3 as that is what he is measuring out to be. I'm going with a grey theme for both. Cael's will be dark grey on top with grey and a multi grey stripping all the way down. And, instead of doing a cable I'm going to do a half linen stitch. I think it'll blend the sold and multi really nicely and just give good texture. For Liam's I'll either do a dark or light grey top and I'm going to incorporate some teal multi in there somewhere. Most likely a stripe. And, his will have the half linen stitch as well. He will be an 18m or so. He's a big guy!

198 Yards of Heaven. And, it certainly was! Right now it looks like something a toddler would wear. It's soooo tiny. I added extra to the lace edge. I still have a wee bit of yarn left to use on a trim on matching fingerless gloves. I'm going to block excessively and hope for a nice size to just wrap around my neck. The yarn is sinful. I've had it for over a year and I was just waiting for the right project. The colors match my new coat perfectly so it was a pattern/yarn/garment match made in heaven.

I've cast on another for my MIL for Christmas. I think she will love this as she wears lots of scarfs and things. I'm going to do an extra repeat of the first lace pattern and extra to the bottom lace as well. I know I'll need more yarn, so I'm thinking a purple to match as the bottom lace.

A Knights Costume. This is for Cael for Christmas. It's a "chainmaille" tunic and hood. It looks a bit big and stretches like crazy. But, I think it'll work and goodness knows kids grow fast. We will get him a wooden shield and paint it blue. (probably from etsy) And I'll make him a sheath to hold his wooden sword that he has.

Baby Booties for the Babe. He is getting so big. Fall is definitely here and he needs some warm booties. I tried this pattern and altered it to use worsted yarn. I was off in my calculations (shocker there!) and it's not going to fit him until next winter. So, I'll finish the other one and cast on again in the smaller size for a fit that should be good now.

I have so many knitty plans for the next months. I'm bursting with ideas and excited to have so many things already done for the holidays.

*On a stash note: I'm not sure if I ever posted here that I wanted to use mostly stash this year. It was kinda a new years resolution. All my knitting has certainly waned my collection of yarn. I'll need to look at exact pounds used. But, I do know this. I'm down 1.5 drawers and at least 1/2 of a large rubbermaid tote. That is crazy!bperry042http://www.blogger.com/profile/06323342963757494145noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3913767173922574316.post-40958158765698936322014-08-20T20:55:00.001-07:002014-08-20T20:55:24.186-07:00Just Catching UpSummer is in full swing here in our house. July and August are always crazy months around here. The garden is doing awesome. We are eating fresh veggies out of it every day. I'll do a post on that another time. The kids have been busy visiting family and hanging out with friends. Alaina started marching band at the high school. (it still boggles my mind that she's starting high school....) So, she's gone Monday through Friday during the days until school starts. Rachel has been reading like crazy and crafting. Cael has been bug hunting and playing with the neighbors. Liam has been crawling, babbling, and just generally being very very curious. And, he has his first tooth! Curtis just started a new job. Yeah! And, me... well.... I've been just trying to keep up with everyone else. I've been canning summer goods, running kids around, holding a teething baby, looking for bugs, doing house chores and knitting every chance I get.

That's what I really want to post about today. The knitting!!! I've finished more socks and some other goodies. I'm knitting dish clothes and matching dishtowels for Christmas gifts. I finished a pair of socks, two bandana cowls, a fat robin and nest toy, three star child mini dolls, and started some more things.
Everyday I'm finding new treasures coming up. It is truly amazing how much this woman planted. I'm sure I've pulled many lovely things that I thought were weeds. But, you would never know by how much is growing now. We've just had 2 days of heavy rainfall. Cael and I were going stir crazy so we headed out into the garden when it looked dry enough. It was very cloudy so the photos could be better.

Here is an overview of the yard coming down from the deck. I don't think I've taken pictures from this angle. The vegetable beds are to the right behind the tree in the photos.
The veggie patches. There are currently 4. I just added in the one on the far right with the teepee style branch trellis made with willow branches from the bushes that we massively trimmed up. I've just planted sugar snap peas in there. Also I planted some beets and cauliflower in front.
Finally some flower and bushes. I know the bottom left is Yarrow. But, I have no idea what the other 3 are. Do you?

I'm loving this garden. So many surprises. I've found more mint (I think it's spearmint) and cilantro growing in a weird place and lots of beautiful daisys.
Seeing our family Christmas photo reminded me of this. I couldn't believe how much Alaina is looking like me. She's always looked so much like her dad.

The other day I learned what a selfie is. Really! This is something that's been around forever, but now has a new special name.....yeah...anyways I was sitting trying to knit when Cael climbed in my lap. My camera was next to me so I grabbed it and took this.
Take that! Photos of me with every one of my kids. I'm always the one behind the camera so finding a photo of me with a kid is crazy few and far between. I love seeing how much of me is in each kid. Same shape or color of eyes, our chins or cheeks. Boy do I love these babes of mine.bperry042http://www.blogger.com/profile/06323342963757494145noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3913767173922574316.post-20242908894390427112014-06-28T09:50:00.001-07:002014-06-28T09:50:22.378-07:00A Cross Stitch And A DollI'm working on a few things. I'm finishing up my Bellatrix socks. (yeah!) I'm halfway down the foot of the second sock. I'm hoping to have them finished in a day or two.

I'm working on a new color wheel cross stitch piece. This will go on my art room wall. I used only colors that I had on hand. Some aren't quiet right, but so far they are looking ok.
I also redid a reborn that I've had a long time. (do you remember when I did that? hehe) This little babe I kept for myself when I decided to stop making reborns. I always loved this sculpt by Berenguer. The body that I put on the poor thing was waaaay to big. Rachel found the doll last week while I was searching for some garage sale stuff. I also found premade bodies from years ago. This white one was perfect. You can see how much of a difference it made. The doll is super cute and well proportioned now. She has been carrying it around all week.
I don't think this little man has yet to have his own post. Shame on me! He turned 7 months old just a few days ago. It really is amazing just how fast the days run by. But now.... Now its time to really introduce our sweet little surprise boy.
He was born November 20th. I wish I could say it was a peaceful beautiful birth. But I would be lying. It was the longest and most difficult delivery of my four babes. I had hoped to have a quick natural birth. But after 12 hours I was ready for that epidural. In hard labor the anesthesiologist tried 4 times to get in the epidural. I finally told him to stop. Less than 20 minutes later our son was born. He was healthy and soooo beautiful. 7 lbs 4 oz and 19 3/4 inches. We were in the hospital an extra day.
Cael took to Liam right away. We had been worried that Cael would try and hurt a new babe. He's of the jealous type after all. Even the hospital pediatrician said we should watch carefully. Gee thanks....because I wasn't already worried! As it turned out I didn't need to worry just then. He loved him. Cael was always telling us when Liam was crying or when he was just fussy. Even if we were already holding him. It was very sweet. The girls loved their new little brother. Rachel had an amazing touch. Liam would sleep on her chest for hours. And she would him and give him kisses.
As a newborn he was amazing. He slept well and loved to be cuddled and held. He never fussed unless there was some reason. He nursed beautifully and snuggled so sweet. He really reminded me of Alaina when she was new. And still does today.

He's hit his milestones as he should. Alert and grasping things by two months, fussy during one time of the day between 6 and 10 weeks, cooing and smiling and just being adorable by 3 months. He rolled over at 5 months....would have been sooner if his belly wasn't so big! And now at 7 months he is rolling, scooting, sitting, and eating first foods. And still, he has this peaceful calm to him that reminds me so much of Alaina. He's such a sweet boy and we are thankful for him everyday.
Late!!!*Note... This post was supposed to be posted on June 14. But, blogger didn't post it for some reason. So, here it is. Late, but necessary as it shows the garden a few weeks before my last posting. I think these photos were taken around the 10th of June.

I don't even know where to begin with this garden. This house was empty for 18+ months before we moved in. Many of our neighbors have described the women living here as the "Crazy Plant Lady". I guess every weekend she would drive up with her car filled to the brim with plants. I could have guessed that by looking at this yard. It was a jungle when we moved in. But it was October so we decided to wait until spring to get going on it. (not to mention I was due in just a few weeks!) When April rolled around and it thawed out enough for me not to freeze, I got to work. I pruned, hacked, and ripped up weeds. And, the hubby and I hauled rocks... lots and lots of rocks. They seemed to have stood on the upper deck and just throw rocks all over the garden as art.

Little bit by little bit the garden is emerging. She was actually smart with what she planted, but not so much with where she planted them. It's all edibles and butterfly and birds stuff. luckily I've found about 50 plant tags scattered around. So I've had a place to start. As you all should know by now... I have a black thumb. I've been trying though. And, really, if I can't become a good gardener here, I won't be able to anywhere. The soil here is sandy loam. It's beautiful and rich.

I cleared out space for a slightly raised veggie bed.

I know I did. I can't believe I've gone so long without working with these dolls of mine. I miss sewing and knitting for them. I miss the community that I was a part of when I sold clothing for them.

I've decided to start making and selling clothing again when I have time. I went through my bin of unsold clothing. I found some new things that I had made prior to moving that I never got the chance to put up for sale. I also found a lot of funky very old stuff that I either never posted for sale or just never sold for one reason or another. Those items I'll be placing in lots at super cheap prices. If your at all interested they will be in my Etsy store or on Den of Angels.

Here are some pics of some of my crew. Lousy pictures. I did them last night with an overhead kitchen light and flash. My good lights are still somewhere in storage.

I made room in my desk for my favorite dolls and their clothes, shoes and wigs. And, I've pulled out my patterns. I can't wait to pick something easy to sew up. Maybe a simple dress? My girl doesn't have a one of her own. For Shame!!!
And, lastly my sweet Narae - Inara - She is wearing a Tonner knit dress in the first picture and in the rest she is wearing a shawl I knit for her. It's the Far Away So Close pattern. I love love love that pattern. This was my 4th one. I knit it exactly as written using thin fingering yarn and size 1 needles. Unfortunately my Inara needs a new faceup. This one is getting worn after all these years. She is from 2007 and I think her faceup is from then too. She is still my favorite all time BJD. I'm so glad that Bimgon is now selling his work again. Hopefully sometime in the future I can get another girl from him.bperry042http://www.blogger.com/profile/06323342963757494145noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3913767173922574316.post-21877462966963030692014-06-13T19:37:00.004-07:002014-06-13T19:37:55.405-07:00A Finished Object!Looking through my knitting pile (trying to find some knitting mojo) I decided it was finally time to finish one of the 6 pairs of unfinished socks. I picked up the oldest. My first official non-vanilla socks. Why I chose such a hard pattern is beyond me. It's no wonder the thing took 7 years to finish! I had the second sock done just past the heal. So I picked it up, fixed some mistakes over the course of a few rows and finished the foot. And, the next morning I finished the toe! Ravelry Link. Now just 5 more pairs to finish!
These I'm proud of and I don't think I have posted anything about these. These are my first hand dyed, hand spun, hand knit socks. I love them. I knit them tight so they would last. They are thick and warm and I got to wear them a lot this last winter. (hence the slight fuzzyness) Ravelry Link.
This is mine. All mine. My very own. And l love it. All 16 square feet of it. This is the first space that's all mine since we moved back in September. I didn't know how much I missed my own space until I got this desk. I haven't had much of a chance to actually sit and do something here yet. But I did decorate it and I found some things in storage to work on soon. Awwww yes!
On one wall I have my finished Firefly cross stitch piece. I love it. And, the frame I found in storage works perfectly. Below that is the box that my dad made for me. It holds most of my sewing goodies. On the other wall is the girls handprints from many years ago, a pin board/embroidery hoop, and my large quilting hoop. This thing is so pretty. I've been wanting to decorate with this since we moved it. I finally figured out what to do with it. I decided that it would be a work in progress hoop. I found some lovely natural linen. I will add embroidery, cross stitch, and found thingies onto it as time goes by. I used some transfers from the book Little Stitching. I love her designs. I have since finished two embroideries. It's charming and it looks nice on the wall.
I see many many nights and days ahead of fun projects in this area.bperry042http://www.blogger.com/profile/06323342963757494145noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3913767173922574316.post-45929849138075679232014-05-06T14:05:00.002-07:002014-05-06T14:05:19.306-07:00Applewood NanookI started my first ever sweater for me. I just love this sweater pattern and I'm really enjoying knitting it. I'm planning short sleeves with maybe using a slightly altered version of the neck lace pattern as a hem. I've tried it on and its fitting perfectly.

However...my yarn isn't matching. I'm using Malabrigo Worsted in Applewood. I found it on Etsy years ago at a steal of a price from someone claiming to have started a sweater and ran out of yarn. Not wanting to buy more she had frogged it and sold it. It never occurred to me that the dye lots could be different. They are. I started with gorgeous variegated Applewood and 3" into my 3rd ball I noticed that the new skein was much more pink with very little variation. I checked out my other cakes of yarn and saw that all but one more cake is this color. Sigh...... Fortunately it will look like I planned for the yolk to be one dye lot and the rest to be the other. I'll use the one other lighter skein for the arm hems.

Update: The above was written and saved as a draft a while ago. I'm finished now and I do love the sweater. After blocking it's a bit big. Not much, but next time I'll make the next size down. And, I will make another. With long sleeves and probably in a grey or navy. I've worn it numerous times and it's warm and fluffy. I like it better worn open as the neck just seems to long or something. When closed with a shawl pin I think the neck looks funny. I've tried it with it pinned under the bust and that is a bust too. In a smaller size I think it would look awesome pinned at the neckline though.
Overall impressions of the pattern? Very well written, but you do need to really read over the charts and such to understand everything. It's written differently than I'm used to in a pattern, but once I figured it out it went very smoothly. I highly suggest you try this one out if you like the design. It's a beauty!
More knitting has been going on. Though I think that with the nicer weather it will slow down some. The yard is beckoning me! First up is a new sweater for sweet Liam. He has outgrown almost all his knits and needed a new sweater. I chose the Gift Wrap Sweater as I loved his Gift Wrap Romper sooo much. I used some stash Cascade wool/acrylic yarn. It's darling. He's darling... yeah... so cute! I found the buttons at Joannes. That little tractor was kinda pricey for me but I bought it anyways. It just matched so well. It's a 9 month size with some room to grow. I'll be knitting a 12m one with short sleeves for summer.
Next up is the Gaptastic Cowl and Braided Beanie. I'm not sure who will be receiving this set. But, I love it. I used some stash Knit Picks Brava Bulky in... I think Grape. I had 3 skeins and I used them all on these. The cowl is wrapped twice around my neck here. Lots and lots of seed stitch, but sooo worth it. The hat is awesome because it's got a braided rim and then more seed stitch up the body. Love it.
Last I've got a new lovey for Liam. More stash yarn here. This one was a cotton boucle of some kind. Only one skein so I had to alter the pattern some. I added the ring to the bottom which he just loves. This little guy will be a chewer I think. He loves to put fabric in his mouth!
The boys room. It's my current favorite room in the house. In our first home my daughters got a fresh nursery with pale blue walls, and fluffy clouds on the ceiling. When we moved to our next house, they each got their own "big girl" rooms. When Cael came I was really uninspired with his room. He was taking over what was Ray's room so it had pale yellow walls and pistachio green trim. I knew we would be moving and didn't want to completely repaint it. I posted about that nursery here. It was cute... but not awesome. For this house I knew exactly what I wanted the nursery to be. Grey with blue, orange, and green accents. With a trains, planes, and automobile theme. I wanted it to be fun for Cael but still cutesy for Liam. All that's left to do in this room is make the curtain for the closet. That will be done while my folks are here this next week. I love love love this room. So perfect for my sweet boys.

It's a small space, but it works. On the wall next to the door is the changing table and Liam's crib. He is still sleeping in our room, but he plays in his crib sometimes. He will transition into here in the next month or so. It was a rainy day so the pics are a bit dull. But the walls are a nice medium grey. Lovely.... The art behind the changing table was made my by mom and I. We found the wooden shaped at JoAnnes and painted them. Then just hot glued them to some canvases that we also painted.

Liam's crib is so filled with love. The crochet blanket is one my grandmother made for our babies. The cute fishie quilt was made for Liam by my mom. The black and white print was made by Ray for Liam's X-Mas gift and finally the doll was made by me for Cael... it's Liam's now.
Cael's side of the room boasts the awesome rocking chair a shelf, wall decals and his crib. Under his crib is the rug I crocheted up last year. It was a labor of love that thing. It weighs a ton, but boy is it cute! On Cael's crib there is the robots quilt that I made him last year.
The closet and then the small wall by the door. Both the shelf and frames I found at thrift stores. I painted the shelf. I printed off photos of each of the boys at 1week old. I can't believe how different they were/are!
Knit!

For the next year or so I won't have a good place to sew so I've decided to embrace my knitting crocheting and spinning. I found all boxes with yarn and spinning supplies tucked in the unfinished downstairs and found homes for it all in our very cramped upstairs living area. Totally worth it though. People will just have to live with yarnny goodness all over the house!

So, what am I knitting? Well, I'm working on both selfish knitting and Christmas knitting. With all that went on last year I ended up having not a single handmade gift to give this last Christmas. I know... horrible right! It felt so wrong this year. So, I'm starting way early this year. Anyways... some of it will be for certain peopl and some things I'll just make and decide later who it will go to. Check out my Ravelry page for more details on any of these projects.
Freshest off my needles are these darling Foxes. The pattern is by Little Cotton Rabbits. If you have never been over to her blog, stop by. Her knit animals are drool worthy and her blog is a great read. She sells her patterns on Ravelry and Etsy. I loved very minute of knitting these two. I never wanted to put my needles down. I used stash yarn for everything except their main fur color. That I bought special. These two I won't be keeping. I really want to, but they have a dear friends name written all over them.
Selfish knitting: Cloche Divine Hat. I used some stash Berroco Ultra Alpaca that I've had forever. The color is amazing and it's crazy soft. The pattern was fun to knit and the resulting hat is really cute on. I had a tiny bit of yarn left over so I found some co-ordinating yarn and made my own pattern. I'll be writting it out and posting it for free soon.

Currently on my needles are this GapTastic cowl and the below Sheepy Bag. The Sheepy bag will be totally cute when it's done, but the yarn is hard on my hands so it'll get finished slowely. The cowl is flying off the needles. It'll get a matching hat and will be a Christmas gift.

I finished this crochet basket for my supplies last month. It sits next to my knitting chair and holds tons of goodies. This was a great stash busting project and I think I'll make some more for gifts.
Hat for my darling eldest daughter. She never asks for knitted things so I was thrilled to make her a winter hat. It's made of acrylic as she hates wool, but at least it's a hat that she'll wear!
Finally still on needles are three pair of socks. I know...for shame! The bottom two have been left unfinished for at least 2 years. The top pair I started in September. I do love these, so they will most likely be the first finished.

I know I'm missing something, but for the life of me I can't remember what it is. I guess it'll be for another post. For now, the babe is sleeping, the boy is playing nicely, and the girls are out with friends. So, I'm off to knit!

Going month to month seems like the way to go.

July and August: Both months saw us packing up the house and hosting birthday parties. Its amazing how much stuff our family has accumulated in the 9 years that we have lived in this house. I'm glad I took the time to go through our things and pack well. I even took the time to keep a binder with inventory sheets with all the boxes and contents. I cant begin to say how much this helped with unpacking. The kids mostly hung with their friends and did some pouting about moving. understandable considering we were about to move them across the state. My baby belly continued to grow, I was still losing weight and feeling generally exhausted and sore. By the end of August Cael knew something was up and started to gt very clingy and fussy. It seemed to throw off his whole schedule. Not good!

September: We moved out on the1st. We were very fortunate to have family come and help. Saying goodbye to friends and family was tough. Especially for our girls. School started on the 3rd. Ray was excited but nervous. She is such a champ.... she loves her school. Alaina hadn't smiled in months. But when we walked around her new middle school she actually smiled. When I got in the car I cried. I still tear up thinking about that smile. She was so unhappy about the move so that smile meant a lot to me. It still took her a few weeks to really start to like her school and make a few good friends. But that smile.... that smile did so much for us all.

October: We finally got keys to the house. It was a forclosure so it was a mess. We still couldn't move in. And with my due date rolling in fast I really couldn't do much to help. My folks made the drive over to help Curtis scrape, clean, and paint. And by the end of October we finally got to move in. Over the month the kids started to enjoy their schools and the Spokane more. Making the final move into the house was so needed. Staying with family was wonderful and it couldn't have gone more smoothly, but being in our own space with our own things really made our lives more comfortable and settled.

November: This month was pretty much the "waiting for baby" month. Everyone (excet me)was busy trying to uppack and keep workingo n the house. I however couldn't. This pregnacy was tough on my whole body and I pretty much just wanted to sleep and rest. Baby finally arrived on the 20th. I'll do a seperate post about him later. We had family in the house for much of this month. It was wonderful and our holiday was peaceful and happy in our new home witho our new babe.

December: Still setteling in really. And waiting for that snow that everyone keeps mentioning. (it never really came) The holidays were the usual busy that happens. But, we got to spend Christmas here ate home with my folks. It was really really nice. We drove over the pass to see family for the New Year.

January: We spent the New Year at my mother in laws house. Lots of family and friends got to see the new babe and the kids got to visit their friends that they have missed so much. Traveling with the new baby and 3 other kids was more tiring and stressful than I thought it would have been. But, I wouldn't trade that trip for anything. We were really missing our family and friends.

I guess that brings us up to date. I'll be doing more posts about our projects and events over the next weeks.bperry042http://www.blogger.com/profile/06323342963757494145noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3913767173922574316.post-87789562971101077602013-07-26T16:53:00.000-07:002013-07-26T16:53:00.311-07:00Newborn & Small Diaper Sewing

I still can't believe I need to make diapers again. Making these newborns and smalls has been great though. They are soooo tiny! I really loved to cloth diaper that first year. And, while I don't mind doing it now (Cael is almost 3 and should be potty trained within the next 3 months or so) it's harder now that he is eating and drinking like the rest of us. We've had more stinky diaper issues and staining issues during the last 18 months or so. Anyways... I read though my posts that i did on diaper and diaper patterns. I'm sooo glad that I made those posts. It was nice to remember my favorites and what I liked and didn't like. I decided that based on that I wouldn't do any newborns. They only fitted for about 6 weeks or so.

On to the stash!

Two wool covers made from felted sweaters. Both are LDD's. The one on the left is a small and the one on the right is a newborn. I LOVE velcro for covers and I hate doing up tons of snaps during diaper changes.

I think I might be one of the few who don't like prefolds. They always seamed to thick and I could never get them on right. I saw some tutorials for turning them into prefitteds so I tried that. I think I'll really like these. On the right are toddler size. But I think they will fold down to a medium / large. The ones on the right are infant prefolds and are a nb/sm size. I'll make more as I find the prefolds.

These are almost finished... they just need their velcro tabs. All are Rocketbottom Step 1 Diapers. I think I'm going to love love love these. They will snap from a NB to a Small and are supposed to fit 8-18 lbs! They are all pockets with microfleece liners.
3 NB LDD AI2's. I know, I know. I said no Newborn dipes. But, I had some scrap PUL that was just barely big enough for the NB size so I decided to make them. I know they will get used in those first weeks and I'll probably be glad for them. Especially if this baby decides to be smaller than his brother.

This isn't the end of my stash. I did receive a box of diapers from another cloth diapering mamma. I did take pictures before I boxed them up but for the life of me I can't find those photos. But, the box included both newborn and small fitteds, covers, AI2's and some woolies
It's been a crazy house around here since my last post. I finally have a moment to sit down and blog! A quick catch up: The house is mostly packed, has been on the market and is now pending. We've gone on a road trip to Spokane and picked out our favorite parts of town. We are now looking for rentals and should be moved within the next 4 weeks. The kids have been home and busy helping with all fun things that happen during the summer. Hanging with friends, packing, swimming, going to the beach to see grandparents etc. During my "down time" I've been knitting like crazy. It's portable, and I can sit and knit and then stop easily without leaving any mess. Plus... most of my sewing stuff and all of my spinning stuff has been packed.

So below is what's finished or almost finished. (I did make some matching booties for the handspun longies, but I haven't taken a pic of those yet.) Right now I have a 1/2 circle blanket and a newborn umbilical hat on the needles. Pics of those later. I've posted the names of the pattern plus the link to my Ravelry page in case you want more info on yarns and size.
This last week I made some time to start sewing my newborn/small diaper stash. There are 6 more pockets on my table now waiting for velcro. I'll do a full post on these later.bperry042http://www.blogger.com/profile/06323342963757494145noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3913767173922574316.post-51730464303832877842013-05-30T17:47:00.000-07:002013-05-30T17:47:10.404-07:00First Load Of Boxes Packed!

Were moving this summer. Across the
state to the Spokane area. We really love the Idaho panhandle too.
We'll be going to check out rentals within the next month.
Anyways... My first major hurdle in packing is done and I'm feeling
really good! Our laundry room has always been considered “The Pit
Of Dispair” It's always been stuffed with large clear bins filled
with extra fabrics and art supplies. Over the years it's also become
the place to put all that stuff that we still wanted to keep but
didn't know where to put. I wish I had taken a before photo. I
started out slowly bringing out random things and re-boxing anything
that we were keeping. It ended up that almost ½ of the stuff ended
up in the goodwill, garage sale, and garbage piles. I really
couldn't believe the amount of stuff that had piled up.

I'm following this woman’s packing
method and absolutely loving it! If your moving and some of your
stuff will end up in storage this is certainly the way to go. I
won't have any trouble finding things when we unpack our home or when
we search the storage area for something.

Here is a picture of the “Pit Of
Dispair” area in the laundry room now. All nicely cleaned out with
neatly labeled boxes with plenty of room for more boxes as I work on
the other rooms. Origionally this area was filled almost 3/4 of the way up that window and the shelves were stuffed.

And, here is our garage sale pile. It goes all the way back to the slider. And, with the garbage and the goodwill the pile was as tall as the table. I'm not sure where to
put our garage sale stuff. Hubby is working on his car in the garage
and there just isn't room... so this stuff may stay inside for quite
a few weeks.

On another note, I'm feeling better
today. I found some free maternity clothes on Craigslist from the
nicest women ever. They are in the wash and I'm excited to try
everything on. The pants will all be to big, but we all know I can
alter them on the sewing machine!

Also, just check out my freezer. All
those meals and readied ingredients just make me smile. Tonight, my
hubby wasn't hungry due to a late lunch so it was “Every Man For
Himself” night. Ali ate a bean burrito and Ray made Mac &
Cheese for her and Cael. It was her first time making it alone and
she smiled the whole time. She was so proud to sit down and eat it
with her little brother!

Yep... you see my sidebar and the above photo right. We are expecting baby #4 on December 1st. Our little one in the ultrasound above is 13 weeks 4 days along.

This little one is a surprise for us. We are still in a bit of shock even though we are feeling excited about him/her. I mean really.... just look at that profile. For my past 3 babies the first ultrasound was done between 6 and 8 weeks for dating purposes. Those ultrasounds look mostly like a peanut. This little one shocked me. He/she is a fully formed little person about the size of a lemon all curled up. Perfect spindly legs and arms. Pearly spine, stomach, bladder, and that beautiful fluttering heart.

How am I feeling? Well, I'm tired, cranky, nausaus, weepy and feeling huge. None of my regular pants fit. So Saturday I pulled out some older pants from my closet and revamped them into maternity pants. They are much more comfy, but I'm still in that "I feel huge, but you can't tell I'm pregnant" stage. This little one is pushing out much much faster than any of my last 3 did. My midwife says it's because my muscles are good and stretched out by now.... yeah. Soon shirts will be a problem too. As most of the ones I have still fit but don't cover the maternity band. That's ok though... just more sewing fun to be had.

How are the kids and hubby? Well, the kids were shocked but happy. And, of course Cael won't really understand what's happening until baby arrives. Hubby is doing good too although he is certainly craving a good meal. I can't seam to pull myself into the kitchen to cook lately. I sorta fixed that today though. I did some good freezer meal cooking today while I felt good enough. There are at least 12 meals in there to help out on those days when I just don't want to eat... which is pretty much every day.

I figured I would kinda track my pregnancy here. So far I've had just the 1 appointment with my midwife. All is well but she wasn't able to find the heartbeat. So, she sent me off to get an ultrasound. I wasn't surprised by this. It wasn't until my 16th week or so that they were able to get Cael's heartbeat. Anyways.... the ultrasound went fine. The tech said "Did you know you have a tilted uterus?" Yes, I knew.. but just kinda forgot about. She told me that that was why the midwife couldn't find the heartbeat.

Weight: -10 lbs
Food Cravings... well all I want to eat is bagels and chocolate.
I finally got some good acid dyes. I've only ever used the basics... egg dyes, kool aid, etc. I now have 10 colors of Jacquard Acid Dyes. They are soooo amazing to work with. I purchased about 5 lbs of fiber from the Sheep Shed and went to town dyeing. The house smelled like wet dog/sheep for a few days, but in the end I got some lovely dyed fibers. Some of which are for sale in my Etsy Store and some I've been busy spinning up. Don't forget to use that code I posted a few days ago for a 10% discount! ATU42
Here's what parts of my house looked like.... a soggy wet mess. I can't wait for the weather to be good enough to hang thing outside to dry in the sun.

I made some mini skeins and dyed them in the base colors that I have so I can have swatches. I also mixed some colors and made samples for those too. I ended up knitting those little samples up into squares for reference later.
I did a lot for Christmas and some just because. Click on the links under each project to be taken to my Ralvery page with more details.

First up is my darling daughter in her matching 3 piece set. The little sweater was made with the Juliet pattern. Super cute pattern and very fast and easy knit. She'll be able to wear this one for a while. The gloves are Constellation gloves that I altered to fit her and the hat is a Kittyville hat. She loves all the pieces and has worn them a lot. The gloves and hat were Christmas gifts. Also... the yarn was found in a rummage sale by my mom. $5.00 for 10 skeins of yarn!!!! I still have 4 skeins left I think.

This beauty is called the Rainbow Casu Cowl. I loved this pattern and the yarn was great to work with. It knit up fast and is soft and squooshy!

The Meret Beret was new to me. I don't usually knit beret's. Next time I'll knit the band on much smaller needles as it's a bit big. I need to use some bobby pins to get it to stay on nice. But, the yarn is soft and I've worn it a few times.

Jane.... The man they call Jane.... Come on... you know you want to sing it out loud! This little cutie was a Christmas gift to my Firefly loving sister in law. She loved it. Wanted to wear it as a hat... hehe. I was actually planning on making it a hat, but I just didn't have enough yarn. She loves tea so this is perfect for her. I almost kept it for me I loved it so much!

Fingerless gloves for my mom. Finally! She's wanted a pair forever, but I've never found the right yarn as she is alergic to wool. When I saw this yarn, I knew it had to be gloves for her. I made them long in the fingers so she can fold the cuff down or keep it up and tuck her fingers inside when it's really cold. She got these as part of her Christmas gift and loved them.
Gradient Mitts
knit up for my MIL's birthday. It's my handspun. I've been hoarding
this yarn for years. It's always been one of my favorites. It was
always destined to belong to my MIL, I just didn't know what to make
until I saw this pattern. These are photographed on my daughter... they
fit my MIL much better.
Another gift for my mom this last Christmas were these Beachy Broadripple socks. I love love loved knitting these. I'm going to be getting more of this yarn so I can make a pair for myself. They are super cozy on the foot and the pattern is really pretty and easy. She loved these too.
These Vanilla Latte socks were finished just this last month. They flew off my needles. I really love this yarn. They were supposed to be for me, but they ended up being way to big. They fit my hubby great, so they are his now. These were my first toe up socks. I love making socks this way and will be doing most of my sock knitting toe up from now on. I got to use up all my yarn!
Sewing has been on the back burner since Christmas. I still have to post photos from the holidays.... maybe later this week. After Christmas I received a jumbo fly wheel for my spinning wheel. I can't believe what a difference it has made. Those large bobbins can hold soooo much more fiber and I've had no problems with bulky and funky yarns. I'm just loving it. Below are some of my handspuns so far this year. Some have already been knit up or are in the process of becoming something. The rest are either sold or currently in my Etsy shop. I'm offering a 10% discount to any of my readers in my shop. Just use the code ATU42 when checking out!
